Welcome to the relog experiment.
So here’s my idea: I’ve created this research blog “relog” to keep track of what I’m reading and my thoughts on those readings. I find myself going through my filing cabinet way too often, wondering where I’ve placed a particular article of interest. If anything, I’m hoping this motivates me to be more organized!
Comment on “Can we further subdivide nuances of open access?”
Functionality is fine but Content is Crucial (otherwise there is nothing to funct). Far too little of the target content (refereed research) is being made Open Access (OA) spontaneously by its authors. This is why policies by authors’ institutions and funders, mandating deposit in their OA institutional repositories (IRs) are needed. It does not make it easier to reach consensus and compliance on mandating OA if one asks authors to do even more than just deposit their refereed research in their OA IR — mark it up in XML, get publisher agreement for re-use.
First things first: Let’s get OA’s target content to be gratis, through institutional and funder mandates, and only after that has succeeded, think about upping the ante to libre.
